Christmas concert in Duisburg: A reflective moment moves the audience to tears
The Duisburg Prince's Guard created emotional moments with their first Christmas concert. What speaks in favour of a rerun after the premiere. The board of the Duisburg Prince's Guard labelled as Santa Clauses welcomed the visitors in the fully packed Liebfrauenkirche.
During the Advent season, carnivalists usually take a break. After all, Christmas should be about family and contemplation. 'The two are not mutually exclusive,' thought the Prince's Guard of Duisburg and invited guests to their first Advent concert at the Kulturkirche Liebfrauen on König-Heinrich-Platz, with free admission. The experiment was a huge success.
The organizers opened the foyer of the lower church two hours before the start of the program. Hearty food from the field kitchen, cake, and drinks were on offer, which lured many visitors into the city center early on for a cozy chat. When the upper church was opened, it quickly became clear that 400 chairs were just barely enough. „Thank you all for coming today,“ rejoiced President Helmut Kellermann and his colleagues. „We want to set a new tone.“ After all, the Prinzengarde experience still works without 'Helau', uniforms, and medals. The Prince's Guard had announced a reflective afternoon with a program for the whole family. And that is exactly what the hosting duo, Romina Loosen and 2023 Carnival Prince Kai-Uwe Otto, presented. The staff band under the direction of Marcel Reynders proved that they have significantly more to offer than the "Larida" often heard during Carnival or the perennial favorite "Gruß an Würzburg“. This time, the musicians skillfully intoned well-known Christmas carols such as "Merry Christmas Everywhere" or "Ring, Little Bell“. Thanks to the lyric booklets laid out on the seats, the audience became part of the "Prince's Guard's choir“. Text [translated]: Bodo Malsch (Funke Medien NRW)
Look forward to the continuation of this Christmas concert!
